Get prepared for your PMP®/CAPM® Certification? : How to make your choice?
February 5, 2014
Many are those who are involved in the-coordination or- project management coordination in their organization.
Project management – This reality is now present in many industrial sectors of activity and the PMP®
certification is a “must” to demonstrate his knowledge of the PMBOK®
standards. With more than 585 000 PMPs and 23700 CAPMs, the number of Project Managers certified continues to grow.
A certification demonstrates knowledge of the standards but not its applications. Any person who starts the certification process must understand that this is an international standard that he/she will have to comply with and develop his/her own knowledge in relation to this standard.
Let’s have a closer look at what it is:
- The self-training:
You are learning by yourself. Many books of reference are available on internet, but all are of good quality. Also, you are often left to yourself in your training. This is why this approach may seem a bit difficult to stay focus. It requires a high level of concentration, a determination, time and discipline.
- The classical usual classroom training during 5 days or several weeks.
This is a traditional approach based on the PMBOK® Guide
theory often driven by several trainers. The focus is on specific issues related to the certification. This formula is given in a 35-hour program and includes a sample of questions that will give you a small idea of “what is the certification”.
You will need to spare some hours by yourself to study – count a minimum of 150 hours - and to get prepared properly for the examination.
This formula also requires a lot of focus.
- The classroom boot camp formula:
this is an intensive 5-day course. The traditional class is enriched with many examination questions that serve as a learning philosophy for the PMBOK® Guide
, PMI and is supported by a one-to-one coaching. This approach also allows a complete simulation of a real examination in order to give you a feedback on your knowledge. This is more demanding but this formula shows a 98 % success rate. If it is the effectiveness you are targeting, see this program as an intensive training that will make you win your marathon!
The faster you are going through it, the more you save time and keep the right focus until the real examination 2 weeks after.
- The virtual classroom session
: this approach is becoming more fashionable. It is identical to the classical session but it takes place in your home or office comfort. The trainer presents the program via the web in real time at a specific moment.
Finally, beware of the 2 or 3-day programs that promise you a success! A PMP®
certification cannot be done in such a short time unless you have made your own preparation several weeks before. The material is huge to cover and the examination difficult.
At SIRIUS Training, we offer you different approaches according to your expectations and your budget.
