The PCO role is to assist and support the project manager in the project execution and control. This is a key role for successful projects.
The challenge for organizations is sometimes to justify a full time PCO. Sometimes the number of projects does not justify a full time PCO or requires more PCO than available. Sometimes the PCO role is included in the Project Manager’s workload.
Today, it is possible to outsource the PCO function. An organization may have a remote access to the experts, the specialists in project control, when and only when it is needed.
Historically the PCO outsourcing brings an overall productivity of 15 to 20%, in the project while decreasing the operation costs.
